Multi-Scale Modeling

DIGIMAT is the nonlinear multi-scale modeling platform for the simulation of composite materials and structures including an interface to LS-DYNA.

DIGIMAT users generate microstructures of composite materials for a direct analysis with FEA analyses. From this they gain valuable insight into details of the behavior of the microstructure as for example the stress distribution in the material itself. These investigations are the foundation for micromechanical material descriptions which can be used as material models in the prediction of the behavior of composite structures. The Digimat-CAE/LS-DYNA interface allows for the use of such material models in the LS-DYNA simulation environment. This setup reflects a micro-macro multi-scale analysis where composite properties like matrix and filler behavior, filler amount and orientation will directly influence the results via the material description. With this the composite properties themselves can be used to tune the properties of the investigated structure.
The seminar will give detailed insight in the multi-scale modeling approach using DIGIMAT with LS-DYNA. In practical examples participants will get familiar with methods for generating microstructures and their following analysis by means of FEA with LS-DYNA. Also the practical application of using micromechanical DIGIMAT material models with LS-DYNA will be tackled.
