GENESIS

GENESIS is an integrated FE analysis and optimisation software provided by Vanderplaats R&D. Among other features, the program includes comprehensive linear static structural analysis, dynamic time and frequency analysis, determination of normal modes/self-oscillation, and calculation of heat transfer problems and composite structures. GENESIS can be used to optimise designs in terms of their configuration, shape and material. For this purpose, users are provided with methods to optimise topology, topometry, topography, sizing and shape.

The optimisation strategies applied (DOT, BIGDOT) and the close link of the FE analysis tool to the optimisation algorithms enable the efficient and reliable determination of the optimal design. This is typically achieved with very few R&D analyses also when dealing with complex problems. Design Studio for GENESIS provides full graphical support both in the course of the optimisation process and at the analysis stage.

This seminar provides an introduction to the GENESIS software and the Design Studio for GENESIS graphical user interface. The individual concepts for optimisation (topology, topometry, topography, sizing and shape) and fields of application will be outlined and discussed. Seminar attendees will solve selected problems using the GENESIS package.
