Equations of State and Simulation of Shockwaves in LS-DYNA
The course starts with a series of examples illustrating the occurrence of shockwaves in barotropic fluids using simple but stiffening equations of state. The more complex case of blastwaves in air is assessed next. Implementation with the SALE solver and convergence studies are shown.
The second part of the course covers equations of state for metals at high compression. The use of flyer plate tests for calibration is explained and examples are given allowing to understand the limitations of the models. The Grueneisen and linear polynomial equations of state are compared in detail.
