Numerische Simulation der mechanischen Eigenschaften textiler Flächengebilde Gewebeherstellung

High perfomance textiles especially woven fabrics made of multifilament yarns are widely spread in technical applications und will gain even more importance in the next years. Through further consequential development of the ITV-Single-Thread Modelling, the ITV-yarn-models and the use of high performance computing a fundamental step towards precise computation of fabrics has been done. Until now fabric models have been generated on the base of geometrical ans analytical relations. Now, for the first time, the manufacturing process of woven fabric has been simulated by explicite finite-element-method (FEM). For this computation input data as weave, yarns, yarn density and other production data were choosen. The result is a nearly perfect woven fabric model that considers the crimp of weft- and warp yarn, compressional behaviour and local displacements of the yarns during the production simulation. With this fabric model all kind of loading conditions as tensile, shear, draping and impact processes can be simulated. Beside that, the precise 3-dimensional fabric model can be used to generate a lifelike presentation of textile parts. Computation of the mechanical behaviour of fabrics and the realistic presentation without actually producing the fabric increases efficiency in product development to a big extend and results in virtual prototyping of textile parts. The presented results on the simulations of the manufacturing process of woven fabrics represent the state of the art in research and development at ITV Denkendorf and show the potential of this computation method for woven fabrics as well as for other textile strutctures.
